This is my first posting.
I bought this knife at an estate sale last week. There is no movement of the blade in the tang. It appears to be made from one piece of metal. It is magnetic. Blade is about 3.75" long; tang is 3.375". Fascinating, primitive item. Does anyone have any thoughts on the piece? Thanks.

could it be a railroad spike knife?
Thanks Justin. I don't know anything about railroad spike knives, but you've given me an avenue to research. Many thanks!
This is a fantastic piece! Someone put in a bit of time making this. This is the interesting part......wait for it.....It's a knife that has been fashioned from a piece of artillery shrapnel. The sheer crack in the blade is one part of the puzzle but the sheered off edges of the handle give it away. Artillery is fashioned to seperate and mess sh... um stuff up. I have a few pieces of 105mm shrapnel and could a pic for you to show the similarity of the metal fractures, but I am 100% sure thats what you have.
