This is a collection of Old Settlers' Pic-nic Chicago ribbons celebrating 1854. They range from 1881-1904 and there are 20 of them. I was wondering if anyone knows what the group was about (there are different Old Settlers groups in this era) and why these have 1854 as the celebration year but other Chicago Old Settlers' ribbons I've seen have another year they are celebrating. I believe they were my great uncle or aunts and whoever went there obviously went every year (missing a couple but don't know if the events were held those years). Any information would be interesting and helpful. Thank you, Mart.

      Found this..

"It was Old Settlers' Day. It was the day when the pioneers of the Fox River valley would assemble in social concourse and talk of the olden time"

Thank you. I read some of that but still don't understand what the 1854 stands for. Appreciate the information though.

"The "Old Settlers Association" was organized in 1854 and the celebration was held on the Seymour property which is now the Beckemeyer School campus. "

I really appreciate the help. It seems the internet is harder than it used to be to get information on things like this. This collection is sort of special and I just wanted some history that I was unable to find. Once again I really appreciate your assistance.
