    As one that can appreciate office appliances not normally seen, this example was a gold mine. Finding history of this little devise proved to be as much fun as cleaning it and making a display base for it. Now it holds an honored place in my collection.

      My grand parents kept their receipts on something like that but it was basically a metal rod that latched at the top.

      dav2no1: I agree. There is nothing safe about it. The way I display it is not the way it is seen in the patent, but is safer for me. Trey: these tools went by many names back in the late 1890's. Receipt spikes, spindles, just to name a few. Those that had a heavy base and set on the counter were the most common.
