I have absolutely no idea what these are designed to do, neither did my grandmother, and she gave them to me years ago. We have guessed that there were for snuffing candles, and they sit up off the table because the wax and black from the candle would not get on the tablecloth?

Candle snuffer. You guessed right! lol I have a couple of these, and they work great.
I have one of these and I wasn't sure of it's use either. Thanks for posting and thanks Esther for confirming what we suspected!
Esther110, so grateful for your response! Now I'm going to post another one that has me baffled - two cast squirrels with a bar between them, held in their mouths.
Dual purpose-- they are candle snuffer as well as wick trimmer.

Scottvez, thanks for sharing even more light on the subject!
Shed more light on a candle apparatus-- was that intentional!
Thanks Scott! I use them often, almost daily (I love scented candles) and by confirming the candle snuffer thing I forgot to mention the wick trimmer. Since it's all done in one quick step...
