Hi ,just wanted to Show - N- Tell a brooch I purchased years ago. It has a Trombone clasp, has not tarnished so may be silver and probably from an egyptian revival jewelry time frame. I' d love to know more about it if anyone has more info :). Like the exact year, manufacturer etc. I saw one on ebay that looked similar for about $100.00. I plan on holding onto mine though and wear as a necklace. ,I thought it was ceramic faince but either its lost its blue color or never had it. Not sure. I purchased this scarab beetle as is. A symbol of transformation in egyptology. I'm not sure if the back etchings mean anything.

Your brooch was made in Egypt, mid-20th century going by hinge & clasp (they were using trombone clasps later than other places) so not really Egyptian Revival. There is a metal purity mark on the front at 1 o'clock, on the ball that looks squashed. I can't fully make it out from the photos, but most likely it's for 800 silver, which looks like an upper case lambda (upside down V) followed by 1 or 2 dots. There may be additional marks in other places, Check the pin stem & the area by the beetle's hind legs. The scarab looks like steatite. Cannot help you with the hieroglyphics.
