I love the Simian features of the human face. It reminds me of the quality of one I have posted, which leads me to my next thought...I want to ask a favor of you. I have posted an etching called the "Unfortunate Love of Paolo and Francesca" from Dante's Inferno Canto 5. The artwork is by Gustav Dore, and the Etcher was Pannemaker. I bought these pieces in a decripid and FABULOUS store behind the Notre Dame church just filled with old etchings, posters...just plain tons of paperphernalia. I bought only three as I was travelling, but regret to this day that I did not buy ALL of them and have them shipped to my Grandma's!! Not that I had the money, but they were SO inexpensive because the presentation was just chaotic, the owner an elderly Gentleman who had too large a Collection for his space..nothing was framed. Here is the favor, Could you go to my site and take a look at the Etching in question and see if you recognize anything from your learning experience with the old etcher's, like Sartain, like Pannemaker, and what having an old etching by Pannemaker might be worth? It's not the money I care about, (though we all worry about money!!), but I am just curious if this is a rarity, or if there are many etchings by Pannemaker out there. It just happens to be a fabulous picture by Gustav Dore, very beautiful and romantic, also a bit dark, as the shadowy characters in the clouds make one wonder..."Who the heck are those guys supposed to be?"!! I have posted one other print from that little French store, called, "El Mundo en Rebes", "The World in Reverse", which is about fifty pictures where the dog is training the man, the cat is in the cage and the bird is toying with it, the fish are fishing for humans, the rich man is shining the shoes of the poor man,etc.etc.. It is very funny and HOURS of entertainment. I have absolutely no idea where the print originated. I am not sure if it is Spanish, it is very close but some words make me think it might be Catalan, Mallorquin or Occitan, the three languages that are regional derivatives of Spanish. In the bottom corner there is a number, can't remember exactly now(seems to be a symptom of middle age!!!), but something like 26. Sorry to be so verbose, to get to my point...Have you ever heard of Pannemaker,(19th century?), and his etchings? or of Pannemaker's etchings of Gustav Dore's work for Dante's Inferno? Thank you for your help, if you don't have time, trust me, I understand!! I wonder if your Sartain etching is in the public domain, in which case you ought to make prints and sell them!! I know I would buy one. Because our President is Black, the unfortunate racist angle rearing it's ugly head in current times, but for the time this was made, it seems to me to be powerful contemporary political commentary, but maybe a commentary on Darwinism? I would love to know!! Is there a title or anything that explains what he is trying to say with this print? I guess that would be too easy. As a history lover, I will try to date this more exactly and see if that was when Darwin's theories were coming out, if not, then I assume political commentary, because the man looks like a monkey....What do you think the artist was relating through this piece? I just LOVE this print. I think you should start a little business!! There is a market for this print, it is beautifully done, as well as it puts the imaginations to work!! We need a Super Love button for this one, Mich

it ok speak your mind i wish i had time but i just started a company call digital1crystal screen goo paint. still building my website. i found out a lot about j.sartain and e.landseer by researching every little detail in that print. many many phone calls to collectors, art dealers, museums, auction houses, and vintage print dealers keeping piles of leads and google just about every thing so i could to get a better under standing. what dose help i went to vistaprint.com and build a website
adding a lot of my notes and posting pictures on the print. made it ez for me to send people i contacted for info on this print that way we could share notes and pictures. sadly i never found one sign like mind still hard to believe that this print is the only one left with these signers. i found out when looking up were his resting place that the lot were he lay was brought and all of the bodies so they say were relocated. when sartain die a lot of this prints were destroy give me a great understand why it was so hard to find any reprints or copy even at philadelphia
print shop know for there great knowledge on rare prints have never seen one or heard of it. i got this print at a yard sale it was in a old red wooden frame and behind glass wanting to put it in to a newer sliver frame. when opening it found the signers i knew nothing of sartain or landseer or what i had and in my search to find knowledge on these men and there masters art. i got to know them and just think what we have before us nothing last for ever in time all thing have there time line as they pass from one to another and if they could talk the stories they would tell. we as collector are so bless that we have a piece of time that last through out the ages. think on how many people who own your treasures before you down through time and now it belong to you. when we pass or sell it it will find it way to a new keeper & if it could talk of it great journeys of many who had & many who lost of it collector of time. we as collector have just been added to it stories of it journeys in time.

I am still reeling from the thought that they destroyed his art upon his death. I have heard of other artists and family of artists passed who decreed that their art be destroyed, I just can't figure out why. It is a tragedy to art lovers, it actually hurts!! Thank you for the compliment!! I have only just begun. That is the problem...too much stuff, and it is all from my Grandparents the Collector's, my Godfather the Collector, my Mother the Collector and myself the Collector. I recently found out my storage was a wee bit on the neighbor's property(when they built), so the Grandparent's estate boxes are in my face and saying..."Deal with me!!" That's how I discovered Collector's Weekly, and I love it. I will post as fast as the real world allows!! I love your philosophy of Collecting, it is always about the story, too. When I post, I try to tell the story which gives it three dimensions, so to speak. Nice talking with you, Thank you, Michelle
