I'm posting this one because it's one of the best finds we've had yet and I just wanted to share in case anyone else has something similar, and wants to know what this is. I got so tired of trying to find out what this was that I caved in and decided to pay for an appraisal through a company called whatsitworthtoyou.com. It was so worth it! I knew I had something good :) I was told "this is not your usual commercial pyrography box. It is all hand crafted and is a one of a kind work of art. The lid of the box is all hand carved in relief and then it was painted and stained and then the pyography was added ....... and that this would be considered a work of American Folk Art -- not just a pyrography piece". Just the chips alone are very cool -- they are embossed and plain clay chips from the 1930s -- some of them have a picture of a dog, a cat, and a monkey and say "stop monkeying". So fun !!
