My niece is trying to find out what this is and what it was used for. The "wings" are sharp like razor blades and there is a slot on the shaft that looks to be either a place to put thread or possibly a place where there was another "wing" was and has broken off. The blades are very thin. Any suggestions?

To my untrained eye it appears to be a seam ripper, but I'm sure there are sewing folks on here that will nail it ! It's Neat !

Thanks. Sounds like a good guess. But why the eye on the shaft above the blades?

I never saw a seam ripper that looked like that ? I was guessing maybe something for weaving ?
