At the turn of the century people illuminated their Christmas trees with lit candles. This practice continued into the 1930's. Here is an example of a set of candle clips that were available at the time. The clips are marked Germany for import to the U.S. Also shown are the type of candles that were used with the clips. The center photo shows how the clips were attached to the branch of the tree.

Good way to burn down the house. Lol
I have a family friend from Germany who still uses candles on her tree on Xmas eve. It is beautiful to see!! Personally, I would be terrified to do it in my house :)
Very nice to see what you posted. Brings back memories I still have 4 of the candle holders marked Germany that was used on my first christmas about 1937. They are rusty ,and a half a box of candles. A tree with candles is a site to see.
3 years ago I lit our christmas tree with some holders I won on ebay. I sprayed the tree with a spray that makes it fireproof. Tested on a branch and it worked.
