THIS IS AN ACTUAL OPERATING RADIO TERMED A "CRYSTAL RADIO SET . IT USED A LEAD GALENA CRYSTAL AS A DETECTOR
SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS WOULD ALLOW A NINE YEAR OLD BOY TO SET UP A RADIO RECEIVER VERY CHEAPLY.
IT REQUIRED NO POWER SUPPLY. IT USED A GALENA CRYSTAL AS A DECTECTOR AND A COIL OF WIRE TO TUNE IN LOCAL RADIO STATIONS.
THE EARLY DAYS OF RADIO BROADCASTING THESE WERE VERY INEXPENSIVE AND WERE USED WITH A PAIR OF EARPHONES.
THEY WERE CALLED CRYSTAL SETS AND COULD BE BUILT BY YOUNG BOYS. I BUILT MY FIRST RADIO CRYSTAL SET AND BECAME INTERESTED IN ELECTRONICS AND IT BECAME MY AVOCATION AND PROFESSION.
THIS SET IS GREEN AND TRULY IS AS IT DID NOT CONTAMINATE THE ATMOSPHERE WITH THROW AWAY BATTERIES OR USE ELECTRICITY

ADDED INFORMATION
I opened it up and all there was inside was a wood spool 1x2 inch wood spool wound with insulated wire. The knob is connected to a brass arm which contacts the coil ,everything was connected together with brass strips. I have no antenna to check it out. I was given 2 of these in the early 50's. The old gentleman has a box of 12. original boxwe were blue, but the boxes just fell apart when touched.
He had a shed that was filled with old radios!
