Does anyone know any thing about this rocking chair? I purchased it and gave it to my mom, she likes it, but we were just wondering about it. The seat is stuffed with paper, not sure what the seat is made out of, I dont know if it is straw, but kind of looks like it. It may be some kind of twisted paper. It looks like someone may have varnished it. Thanks

Well...I have a very similar chair and I am equally lost. My understanding is that an armless rocker is a ladies sewing chari. The style of mine os very much like your however I have a caned back and seat. I also have carving on the top portion. I have both German and English women in my family...they all sewed! Many of them lived in Germany, London, Cincinnati, Louisville. What state are you in?
That is interesting, thanks for sharing your information. I live in Florida, I purchased it from a lady for $25, she got it in an auction with other items. It does have a carving on the top of it. I will have to take a better picture of the chair. Do you have a picture of your chair on this site? Id like to see it.
How wonderful for you to have a chair passed down from your family! Hopefully this chair will now stay with my family for many years.
