I found this in an abandoned storage unit. Can anybody identify this object? As you can see by the yardstick, it is quite large, and it appears to be hand sewn-the inner w/ coarse thread, and the outer w/ rawhide.

I;ve seen these "rugs" before and I believe they are from South America...it's not the work of any North American tribe....though the design motif in the center has sort of an African feel to it.....hmmm.....
