    Hi Everyone (again)
I just wanted to show you all this book and see if anyone knows about this author?
I know he was a pioneer in the world of photography & birds.
This particular book is dedicated to Mr Enoch Thomas, as stated in the 'Preface' - he states he could not of written the book without the help of Mr E Thomas (Enoch Thomas)

    Now here are my questions

    1) I would like to know more about oliver g pike and
    also
    2) Who was Enoch Thomas?
And finally, would anyone know if this is actually worth anything, for if it isn't I will give to the local Cancer Research Charity. I have done a little research on Oliver G Pike, which is how I found out about his pioneering methods of taking close up shots of birds in their natural habitat. I can only imagine HOW DIFFICULT it must of been to take such high quality photographs with the large and cumbersome camera. Apparently this guy Mr Oliver Pike invented various objects that allowed him to take such photographs, the book contains a good number of pictures, each covered in a sheet of transparent 'grease/tracing paper' to protect them
The book itself is in fantastic condition - especially as it is 107 years old.

A true collectors piece for both book collector and bird watchers.
    Email Address is sunburyhorologist@gmail.com

    Thanks in advance

This book has now sold - It was put into a specialist Photography auction and raised £685, all of which has been donated to the Princess Diana Hospital in Grimsby!

Isn't worth anything? The fact it sold for £685 at a Photographic Auction (Oliver G Pike was very famous at the BBC for many years) - This unique copy of this book was worth more than we first thought. Someone on eBay offered £300 for it, but the £685 was double that (and some)
      Book was absolutely MINT!

i was being facetious. i wanted the money to go to the charity, but you only wanted it to go to them if it was worth 'nothing'. i found that to be a very strange/sad comment.

I think the reason your copy sold for so much is due to the fact that it was all going to charity and that it was signed. Otherwise, a first edition (unsigned) of this book starts at 13 bucks at http://www.abe.com, which is an excellent resource on the availability and general value of antique/collectible books.

If you're able to make that much money off of old books and donate it to charity, more power to you.
