This is the tapestry I acquired today. The top to the bottom of the tapestry as visible in the frame is 18 x 14 inches but we don't know how much more of it is there under the frame.
The frame is what I am using to date it as well as the fine needlepoint technique.
The gilt gesso molding on the wood structure is flaking and the gold is also coming off, the back of the frame has a cardboard which is chipping away like a cracker and it is set in place with flat head cast iron nails.
Sadly the glass is cracked too so what we might have to do is find a similar vintage frame (once we are able to exactly date it), and have it professionally re-framed.
Its not my style at all, but I think antique tapestries can be very expensive so I bought it. It feels like a 19th century piece piece possible? English or French?
Any feedback would be incredible!
