A few months after it was announced that Tubby Smith was the new basketball coach at the University of Minnesota, my brother heard on the radio that he would be signing autographs at a restaurant on campus. I happened to be on campus and didn't have anything on me good to have signed so I went over to the lobby of the ticket office and got a few of the free schedule posters they had. I waited and talked to one of the local sportscasters for about 20 minutes (Randy Shaver for you Minnesotans) until he showed up. I had already eaten and he was signing for people that were in line, as they paid for their food. I didnt want to wait in line so I asked this old lady if I could step infront of her and get an autograph. She said yes, so I quick got these and left. They sat on the top of my bookcase for three years and I finally had both of them framed, one for my brother's birthday. Pictured from left to right: Al Nolen, Damian Johnson, Jon Williams, Ryan Saunders, Spencer Tollackson, Dan Coleman, Lawrence McKenzie, Blake Hoffarber, Kevin Payton, Jamal Abu-Shamala, Brandon Smith, and Travis Busch. In his first season Tubby Smith took a team that went 9-22 the year before he arrived to a 20-13 record the next.
