I don't know much about this doll, except I found it in our attic in a box. There was a note from my father stating that the doll is wearing authentic silk

My father brought back some of these dolls. He was in Viet Nam and Korea. Was your father in the military?

This is Japanese doll since she wears her traditional Kimono. If Viet Namese doll she will have a traditional Ao Dai. This doll may be made in VietNam and your father bought her when he was there.

What fun it must have been to discover this in the attic! Yes, as Mahjong stated, this is a Japanese doll. With the English attached information, and the quality of the features, and the quality of the silk, I can say with some confidence that it was made for the souvenir market aimed at visitors to Japan. It wouldn't have been very expensive when new.
