I think this is reproduction but please tell me what you think and please tell me how to tell the difference for next time so I dont make that mistake again.

Hi Ron . These 2 I have looked at I can't see brush strokes to well but by body they appear to made in a factory ,possible date 1960's . These could be considered collector type dolls . They are so hard for me to see , But Bodie says inexpensive novelty doll .
There are many things to look for on a true China doll . The painting is a big clue and also quailty of bisque used to that was glazed into a China doll. It is often found with little black specks in it . The color of paint used is another clue . I want you to look at my Antique china doll and look at her painting very close . How the eyebrows are painted ,the eyes lip paint . Then will get back to you . I will post link to 2 china's I have posted

My suster in law has been a doll collector for some time thinks my dolls afe ugly and scary some times. I guess there are differwnt tastes in all forms of collecting.

I looked closely and I do see black specks in the face under a magnifying glass but the clothes look so new how can they possibly be 100 years old?
Ron the clothes on your doll are not 100 years old . She may have been redressed . I wish I could hold her in my hands to see face in person . She is not brand new doll , one thing about many antique china dolls are their bodies often have to be replaced as the fabrick breaks down and my large China you saw from 1960 is in original frail dress and old body. her arms were repaired years ago . So it is all in the face and the painting knowing what it should look like to tell old from new even if they are dressed in new clothes can be 100 year old head on doll. Yours her body appears original to her and from fabric she is not 1880-1920's but Could be from as early as 1930's but not the clothes . When you hold old China you can see the difference in old and new if you see enough of them. Also here is a big time alert ! China dolls did NOT have painted eyelashes . where repro's often do . The painting on originals is without error . very fine smooth stokes no errors , The brush stroke from eyelashes will have one eyebrow with think end by nose and other eyebrow starts ot thinner by nose . So much to tall and it takes a long time and experts have been fooled by some that are so well done they missed the clues . So don't buy unless you are sure and best way is look in a local museum and study their faces along with bisque dolls it would be a fun trip also :-)
Here is a fairly fake repro to look at . Notice the red lines above her eye is not perfect , the color of her hair and eyebrows and eyes are wrong they did not use these colors . But she could come off as being original to untrained eye .

I did not see all this information until recently. You are a great teacher. Therd must be a doll museum somewhere in this city. I know there is a doll hospital.
