MIT's model railroad club, as one might expect, has one of the best websites for learning about how people play with model trains. The site features videos, layouts, and project plans for the club's Tech Nickel Plate Railroad. There's also a detailed history of the club, information about its model railroad control system, and a page about the club's reference in the first chapter of Steven Levy's 1984 book 'Hackers' as one of the sources of 'hacker culture.'
