Schraffts knife, vintage Frank G. Shattuck Co.

Schraffts sold candy and offered lunch in fifty shops in New York. There's a book about the chain, run by Frank Shattuck. Jane Kanel Slomanson wrote "When Everybody Ate at Schraffts" and it's on Amazon. Artists with day jobs and ladies who lunched and businessmen frequented Schraffts from what I gathered on line. I thought it would make a lovely addition to the galley of my sailboat.

This particular knife is my only piece and I bought it since I suspected a connection to Shattuck and Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley, near the University of California at Berkeley. I found the knife in a plastic bin at the Goodwill in the kitchen utensil section in the Fillmore, lower Pacific Heights, San Francisco. So my theory is a wealthy lady of Pacific Heights back in the day lunched at Schraffts and pocketed the silverware. She brought it home to San Francisco either in her luggage or in her purse on the plane back in the day when flying was posh.
