thought to be a symbol of fertility in the mesopotamian culture, also Biblical reference to "plenty" as in loaves and fishes. my father had a gold one with ruby eyes from his time in nam. later in my service i found them in a little shop in iraq on the anaconda base. also of course refers to Jesus as the fish.
