ww2 gas mask and backpack

I don't know much about these items. The mask was given to me as a gift. on the canister it is dated 1945. The backpack I found on ebay. The story told is, the bag was found in a barn in france. It is a german back, there is still a leather strip on the back that has the soldiers name imprinted on it.
