I just purchased this rack or shelf and as you can see it is still in my truck. It is now on my workbench in the process of being cleaned. I think it is an Antique Bakers cooling rack used in a Bakery and held pastries or donuts as I think the crud on it is from glazes or icing. Research has not turned up anything like this. Each shelf has dowels that are covered with a plastic sleeve that slide front to back. It will take forever to clean these. I don't know their purpose. I need advice as I would like to remove these sleeves so I do not have to clean them and wonder if it would ruin the antique value. I plan to display crocks, wooden bowls and wire baskets on it. Thanks, Audrey Z.

The only advice right now is to clean it as-is until you identify it. Removing the sleeves before you know what it is might be something you will regret later on.

Hello Esther ... thanks for the advice. That is what I plan to do. Cleaning the sleeves will take forever, but must be done. I will use it for awhile and then decide if they should be removed.
