This puzzle has been in my family for generations and belonged to my grandfather, Seward Frederick Church (1893–1983), who was born and raised in Eustis, Florida.
The box is copyrighted 1877 by Union Sectional Map Co. of New Haven, Connecticut. One side is a sectional map of the United States and the reverse is a world map. The puzzle is especially interesting because Yellowstone Park appears as its own separate puzzle piece within Wyoming Territory.
I would love to learn more about these puzzles, their history, and how common they are today.
Has anyone encountered this edition before?
Is the Yellowstone piece unusual, or was that a standard feature of these puzzles?
Does anyone know approximately how many versions of The Silent Teacher were produced?
