A simple Google search yielded several possibilities. I don't know the answer to your question, but I did find several references to Albert Boyst. One said he was born in 1861 in Pt. Jarvis, NY, died in 1927. I found a newspaper article where a young man named Albert Boyst won 2nd place in a roller skating marathon at Madison Square Garden in NYC in 1885. I'm sure you can find more than I. As to why he was the People's Choice... your guess is as good as mine!
