My Mother told me that she made a trip to the big city of Louisville around 1921 and purchased this lamp as a Christmas gift for her Mother. She didn't remember the store but it was in a window display on Fourth Street, the main shopping district in Louisville, KY at that time. Since Mother would have only been 16 years old at that time, she must have come to the city with an older relative who had a vehicle to transport such a large item back to rural south central KY. She said my grandmother kept the lamp in the parlor where the family gathered on Sunday afternoons and sang songs while "Mama" played the organ. After my grandmother died in the early 1970's, Mother brought the lamp to our home in Louisville but it ended up in the basement where the shade got torn. Over the years it collected a lot of dust and that is how I inherited it. It has been in my basement since 1994 and now I am wanting to gently restore it and use it in our living room. I hate having the shade redone but I can't use it in the current shape it is in and there is no way to clean it. The material is so delicate it will tear at the slightest touch.

The artist craftman who is restoring the shade helped me go through boxes of lace and other materials and we picked a lace curtain to use on the shade. We also plan to keep the original braiding.

The one piece base is wood and the images have an Oriental theme but seem to be done in a more colorful (almost Mexican palate). There is a Geisha girl image on the reverse side of the gold mountain image. The shade is silk and is nearly two feet in diameter. The lace is hand done metallic. I am in the process of having the shade redone by hand. On the lamp itself we just plan to clean with damp cloth and fix the wiring on one of the bulb sockets.

I haven't found anything like it on the web and would really love to know more.

I have just come to inherit this same lamp. My mother's aunt gave it to her many years ago and I too would like to find out more about it. My mother had the shade redone and I so wish it had the one I remember. It is different than yours but was gold. I'm not positive if it was the original shade. My aunt was probably around the same age as your Mother. Such a beautiful antique!
