    This is a cruet set with a japanned or lacquered wood and gilt brass stand, and a 5 piece gothic mould blown set of cruet bottles, circa 1830s-40s.

    Arrived today from eBay. Quality wise this is the most hideous glass in my collection, the mould blown glass is wonky, the dark bits you can see are imperfections in the glass. This is a fantastic survivor as these were probably churned out by the thousands and nearly all were probably binned as gothic went out of fashion, or one bit got broken, as they are such cheap and fragile things. There is no cutting in the making of these bottles, not even a grind stone. Only one replacement stopper.

    Some people may hate this as it is such poor quality, but I see it as a time traveler from some poor persons table over 150 years ago. I just bought £20 of history.
