When I was much younger, people didn't see Money in everything old; nor did they see, "What can YOU do for ME?" So finding unique, ancient (to me at the time) artifacts was a lot simpler, and by far a lot cheaper than today.

One gentleman had an old 1910 to 20's medical dumpsite near his creek that I had found out about through friends. He was a grumpy old codger (because people had begun to sneak onto his land and make huge holes digging for old bottles and such). He was also a farmer, and I knew farmers well, so once permission to hunt, as long as I left no holes, was successfully attained, I went to discover for myself what this old dumpsite might hold.

The place had some amazing finds (for a young boy especially), magical bottles, glass stoppers, old broken crockery, etc, even a few old marbles. I found a 3" tall, cobalt blue, hobnailed poison bottle (with POISON down one side, and the skull and crossbones on the other...which I foolishly sold without knowing anything about it later that same year).

A chunk of crockery caught my eye, and I knew it would be broken, but I dug it anyway, and out popped this little marble soap dish, marked HOTEL.

The dish is aged and stained with so many decades in the wet ground, and though it's fractured, it is one of my faved finds.

The place has changed hands since the gentleman's passing, and no one is allowed there now...which I understand through all the holes I saw there.

I gave this piece to dad because he loved it, and later, dad purchased the larger soap dish at auction for highly little. After dad passed, mom gave these two to me.

Again, there is no accurate category for this

There are still multiple thousands uncovered yet...talk with bulldozer operators, street repair people, city employees, road builders...at my last rummage sale I was visiting with our water dept guy. He told me of non-specific areas that are unlawful because they involve native American artifacts older than the ks gov thought would exist here.......on public lands..........what a dilemma!
