The white powder is a mold that grows on some plastic doll. Not all will get it but usually they have what we call The Dreaded hard plastic condition of decomposing plastic and it gets a odor like no other ! Like baby vomit or sour milk . If your doll has this there is really no cure ,there are people who have wrote articles on how to lock in odor but none work. Now to find out if she has this but her in a sealed box for 5 days do not open until 5th day some say 10 days or more but I normally can smell it and don't have to test . If your doll does not have that odor then your dealing with just mold and because she is a painted plastic doll you can not use soft scrub on her like I do because her paint will be discolored . It will keep coming back unless mold is killed and my next suggestion is to clean her well and put her out in sun every for a day . Cover her face with a cloth. Good luck . Any questions ?
Oh if she has the hard plastic odor she is hopeless . Very pretty Patty play Type doll !

There are hard plastic doll cleaners on ebay . But you need something to kill mold . was she stored in a humid place ?

I've had her brand new since I was 5 years old. This has only started showing up in the last 5 or 6 years. We built this house 25 years ago and she's always been in our walk-in closet. Thx for the suggestions, I'll put her in a box for five days and see what develops. Right now there is no odour. I'll keep you posted. I was worried it might be toxic to my granddaughter. Thx again Manikin.

Your correct the mold should not be touched by a child , It is Not black mold but it is mold you can breathe in . I would not let a child play with her . If your on gulf area of Tx I would not be surprised it developed .

I wish I was on the Gulf! Lol, I'm in Canada, born and raised. My granddaughter is only 11 months old so she has not handled it. Thanks for the advice. I think in the last 30 or more years, the only one that has ever handled her is me. With the exception of the "suspected" mold, she is in brand new condition, including her eyes which open and close as easily as the day I got her. She is now sealed in a box so we will see in a few days.

Surprised she got it in Canada I have family there and family heirlooms from my Grandmother which would not held up as good here as they did in Canada .
What is marked on her back or back of neck ? Is she a Pedigree Doll Canada made ? She looks like she should be marked AE or Egeee ?

She is a Canada made doll :-) They had trouble with the condition yours has
The Reliable Toy Company Limited of Toronto, Canada (1920-1991) had a long history of making good quality doll products.

From 1922-1955 Reliable Toy Co. began producing their own composition dolls. They are probably best known for their Canadian style Indians and Mounties dolls, they also bought molds for other well known USA doll manufacturer's, like the Ideal Toy Company. Shirley Temple doll of which they produced their own version, that was not licensed for export to the USA.

In the 1950s Reliable made hard plastic and vinyl dolls.
