    These are so beautiful! I just love them, the are called The Duet and The Dance, they are a reproduction done with thread from an unknown artist around 1812. They are only 6" - can you imagine??

    I would like to know what they are actually called...besides needlework, there has to be a term

      This sewing is called 'crewel' embroidery. It's done by using different colours of silk thread. Usually a pattern is drawn on the cloth, and instructions given for which stitch and colour to use where. Or may be was done differently in those "olden" days. It doesn't look as though the sewer separated her silk threads, and sew with perhaps three strands instead of six.
