Vintage Woven Multicolor Decorative Basket

This is a really pretty, very tightly woven basket with a rather unusual form. The pattern is very colorful and very intricate and the material is dyed straw or grass. It basket measures 8 3/4 inches in diameter including a nice detail on the edge and it's about 2 inches tall at the center mound. The body of the basket sits on a coiled straw stand. I'm wondering if anyone knows where this basket is from, how old it might be and if it had any use other than decorative? Thanks!
