Asian Antique Incense Burner

My husband inherited this very odd, but strangely beautiful incense burner from his grandfather years ago. As a child the piece always intrigued him.. So I would like to find out its background, if possible. It is an Asian Foo Dog Incense Burner 12" tall, and 5in wide at the feet. The widest point is 9 in (tail to nose.) There are no markings to be found on it, and he has no idea where his grandfather got it.
