My grandfather trained there.
I heard it called by another name ...
Thanks to Pres. Clinton it is the only Naval Boot Camp still open. They closed Pensacola and San Diego likley based on the fact the weather extremes of those frigid locations made Great Lakes the only logical choice.
I trained there, and was also stationed at NAS Pensacola. 2 great historic Naval Bases.....
When I was station there, I never had time to take in and appreciate the grand architecture, I do recognise the mess hall, as we went there 3 times a day....in and out with only 10 minutes to eat!
I was there in 1957. Never remembered how it looked. Thanks for posting the pic
I was at NTC Orlando...Isn't it amazing what we didn't see ! These were in my Grandfathers belongings.
NTC-SD was the best. They had many modern buildings, but on the "Main Base" was some very neat 1940s architecture for office buildings and some great homes for high ranking navy officers. I believe they are all gone.
very beautiful building!!!!!!!!!!!
my dad was in that building for training!!!!!!!! and they add on that those building from what he says.
Thanks tlmbaran, pickingupbones,Tom, AR8Jason, and BELLIN68. Be sure to visit the other NTC pics !
