I believe this is an inkwell, but I am not sure. My aunt was downsizing from a large home to a tiny apartment in Paris, and she gave me an antique ashtray and this piece. Can anyone tell me if it is actually an ink well and if the 1790 on the bottom is an actual date? It is made of porcelain and the base measures 2 1/2". Thank you.

      Nope - it's a triple bud vase.

Someone else will have to offer info on whether or not it's actually from 1790 or just an old souvenir piece. 1790 is a noted date in French history:

The decoration is most likely the town crest or coat of arms for St. Malo
