This.38 S&W somewhere in the 1940's. pretty rough shape but still a cool gun. Its all I have left from a departed friend, which was his grandfathers pistol. That's all I got to say about that.

Looks like an old Victory Model. See if it still has "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on the top strap above the cylinder. They were made in both .38 S&W and .38 Special. It's still a classic. The holster is probably what caused most of this damage. Measure the length of the gun and go and purchase a pistol sock for it form Walmart and at any gun shop or pawn shop. Oil it down good before you store it. Leather holters can retain moisture and hold it in the leather. If the gun would have received some TLC some years ago it would have kept its finish.

I have the same pistol. Its probably a military WWII pilots pistol. It has the swivel for a lanyard on the botton the the handle. There should be a small ordinance mark (flaming bamb...looks like an "O" with a small flame on top)
ditch that holster, and get a WWII brown leather US stamped pilots shoulder holster.....GREAT item!
