This lamp was my grandmother's and I know it is at least from the 1950's or earlier. . It is quite heavy, so I think the red mineral towards the base is marble or onyx. It is brass and the cream color is painted on. I don't have the shade anymore :( I was hoping someone could give me an idea of actual age, and also tell me how you would define the style, etc. I do know that it is a diffuser floor lamp.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Its one from the late 40's as there were so many lamp startups right after the 2nd world war. It has the decorative piece at the top, so it looks all wrong. That piece should go at the bottom. You can buy a small twist in piece to put a smaller wattage bulb at the very top. It had usually a glass shade on top of the large trilite socket and over that a paper shade hung. I used to have the fabric/wire reinforced shade, but had so many tears in it. Back then, wasn't a collector. I do remember that the lampshade was attached to the top of the large middle 'socket', so not sure why it was thought that the piece should go on the bottom. Maybe I am just not visualizing the comment properly.
I just bought one very similar and the shade that sits on top is made of milk glass. The base also has what I assume is milk glass with little colored swirls in it. there is actually a light on the inside of the base that will illuminate the milk glass on the bottom of the lamp. I'm not an expert but I was thinking the lamp may even be pre WWII.
