When I saw these little brass shoe ashtrays, I had to go look for mine to see if it matched. Same shape and India markings but with a different incised design, my mother probably got it at a home party sale...meaning, there were often "parties" at homes where a person would bring in merchandise so the housewives could buy "exotic" wares. In the early 1960's, before there were shopping centers everywhere, these parties existed to supplement home decor items. I expect that the "shoe" was probably a low priced item bought by mom to help the home hostess with her total sale amount. I'm pretty sure there is not much value in these used ashtrays.

My mother was into brass and carved wood from India. She would buy them in Indian stores in Panama, where we were stationed back in the 60s. She had a few of these shoes, and they were sort of her staple gift for housewarming parties and new acquaintance Christmas gifts.
