Hello Everyone,
I recently purchased a trunk from an antique shop. The shop owner told me that the trunk came from India and is 200 years old. I have no idea what type of wood it is made of and I been unsuccessful in locating a manufacturing logo or any inscriptions. I can share that it does have square headed screws, four wooden wheels underneath, and is approximately 3ft high. This is my first time purchasing and item from an antique shop so I wanted to know if I received a bang for my buck or if I was suckered for being a novice. I paid $200 for the trunk. If anyone could tell me what year or country of origin they think it comes from I would greatly appreciate it.
I plan on using it to store blankets and I just fell in love with the trunk because I have never seen anything like it. Either way I plan on keeping this treasure in my family for generations to come.
Thanks!!

Your trunk was most likely made in India. Is it 200 years old? Most likely not. Could it be new? Probably. Go to Alibaba.com and you will find these as well as many other "antiques". India, and other countries are flooding the market with these trunks, also any Brass made items such as antique locks. The key to telling that these are fakes is that they are always too worn, or too distressed. You will need to contact an expert in Indian antiques to be sure.
