Qyuan Yin Porcelain Statute depicting O-Wata-Tsumi revered god of the sea shown here with snake like projection ready to strike. In Japanese lore O-Wata-Tsumi is protector or the sea and also serves as a harbinger to those who wrong the land and sea surrounding their beloved lands. The statute appears to be Chine de Blanc with small painted areas it could have been used as a ritual piece at a monastary.
