Possibly a Marine Corp Pin? However, most Marine Corp pins I have seen have an eagle on a globe. Not sure of metal but has some greenish corrosion. The crude construction and soldered pin on back makes me think this is pre-WWII. About 2.5-3in. wide. A mystery to me...

I'm not a Marine Corps collector, and I have not seen this insignia before, so this is guesswork on my part.
I think that if this is a US military Insignia, it's likely from the late 1800s. Wreaths with initials like this were used for various US military insignia then, and safety pin style fasteners like this were used on many insignia at the time. Also, there were times in the 1800s where the Marines used USM as an abbrievation.
Or...for all I know this could be an ROTC insignia for the University of Southern Mississippi!
Thank you, Chrisnp!
