Nice piece for a collection. After the original came out they made ash trays and cigarette lighters fashioned after the original. They were really popular in mom & pop corner bars but people tended to take them home.
thanks belling68 for the info a friend of mine thinks its from the 20s or early 30s i know most of the things i see say occupied japan but this one is just japan so he may be right on the years thanks again
thanks fhrjr2 for the info i think its a ver cool item just wish i knew when it was made my friend thinks its from the 20s or 30s
The lighter may tell you more than anything else. If the lighter has any marks at all it should be traceable. It was made to fit this piece so may well be a unique model.
The whole is more than the sum of the parts, so to speak. Each part of any item has a history of it's own.
on the lighter it has japan on the side of it and on the bottom there is an N nothing else on the pole or the guy thanks again
When your "friend" starts talking about the 20's or 30's have your friend research the original. This is a made in Japan repro we are researching.
These were mass produced by the thousands and given away to bar rooms as a promotional product. Unless you have something more than what you have stated then it is a neat collectible to display. It has a value of about $10.
i tryed telling him it was from the 50s or 60s he kept saying no its from the early years because it was not occupied japan untill the 40s it just says japan we been in a disagreement over the year
You certainly express yourself well. I think you are the winner of this argument.
i hope so he has proven me wrong so many times on other stuff i finally got one right lol thanks for your help
