These pins worn by "Bonded Representatives" (door to door Salesmen. Repairmen) of the Singer Manufacturing Company. It was Singer's way of validating their "official" representatives, thus alleviating the wariness of the housewives of the time. They knew that someone wearing this badge was honest, forthright, trustworthy, and an expert in their field.
The Rep's could supply training, complete a few onsite repairs, as well as introduce new products. The colors of the badges were to change monthly - another precautionary effort to prevent dishonesty!
