My grandmother gave this to me when I was about 10.
I would love to know something about it.
    # 20655. Has a mark, but not sure it you will be able to see.

I was able to get the dust cover open: Wm. Ellery inside and the number 1,409,435. Also on the inside of dust cover at the bottom is 55

note ... the close up with number/mark is not tarnished as it appears in the photo ....

is it gold filled - I cannot see any markings.
Is this a valuable watch ... or just valuable as a keepsake? I am not planning on selling - just has always haunted me as to the history. My grandmother was given this watch by a young woman she took in - the woman was ill and later died - giving my grandmother the 'only thing she had of value'

I have just added a photo of the mark inside cover.
