My friends have made a lot of jokes about this adorable little thing,( apparently I'm the only one who thinks it's adorable: )
I've had him for a number of years, in the house and presently in the attic.
It looks very old, is about 6 1/2 inches long, has a dry but lustrous coat of fur, and is stuffed with excelsior,( you can hear the crinkly sound when you give him a little pinch )
I know he's somebody, but do you know who that somebody is?

Hello Mikko and Manikin, Thanks for the love.
I think I dave a squirrel in my attic too, once alive, it looks much like yours does now. ...but maybe not quite as lustrous :)
What exactly is excelsior anyway? ...I live next door to Excelsior, MN.
I'ts really cute!!!!!!!
I may be wrong, but this looks like it might be Stieff.
I think this closed Ebay sale is your toy. It is described as being a very rare Steiff Chipmunk constructed of mohair and of considerable age. You will notice the stitching of the nose in the second picture. Yours just seems to be missing the little felt feet and the Steiff button on the ear, both very common due to age and play.

Thanks Bootson, Brat, Fourpeeps and Scandi
after so many years it's good to finally know something about my little friend.
Fourpeeps and Scandi you hit the nail on the head,.....if it has a litter I'll send one to each of you:)
Thanks for all the love,
Tony.
Hello Bootson,
Excelsior-slender, curved wood shavings used especially for packing.
I know it from packages that my Grandmother would send to us from Czechoslovakia, in the early 1960's.
Thanks for the comment.
This little critter does look like a squirrel when he's sitting on a shelf in the attic, but his new-found celebrity has elevated him to a seat of honor in the living room.
