      Hi,
      The black case looks nice and glossy - it could be Whitby jet, which is also very collectible in Victorian mourning jewelry. In the realm of Whitby mourning jewelry, Whitby jet lockets are more rare because they tend to get cracked or broken over time due to the metal hardware. Either way a beautiful piece!
