Thanks for looking at this Laura. Much appreciated
ok my version is different as its australian and when u open it up theres a speaker and knobs...the workings are completely out of sight...but i think yours is definately eithet a telephone or telegraphic tester...quite rare out this way, as i have only seen a hand full in 30 years..
Thanks so much Laura. We purchased this from a deceased estate of a telephone and communications collector in Grand Rapids Michigan. We suspect it might be a Ww1 trench phone as it has no dialing capabilities and a horn ear piece. Our theory is, that would make it mid 20's or earlier.
Thanks for your information
The Holtzer-Cabot Telephone Comapny was formed in Boston 1889 by Charles Holtzer who has acquired the stock and machinery from the Charles Williams,Jr Co., the machine shop of the first telephone. Your lineman test telephone was manufactured around 1902.
Thanks for the further information Tom. It's much appreciated and insightful. Just received our 1902 Monach wall phone from New York and will post soon
