In the collection of bottles I have this beautiful brown glass bottle that was was made by the Dr. Pepper bottling company in Galveston, Tx. The contents of the bottle are unknown but there are the letters (j)(p)(p)(y) along the bottom of the neck of the bottle.
Your bottle was not made in Galveston. It was made by the Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Streator, Illinois, sometime between 1930 & 1971. The Dr. Pepper on the bottom refers to the bottling plant, not the bottle contents.

Let me rephrase my last sentence. The bottle could have had DP in it, but it could just as easily had other drinks and it had a paper label at one time. The bottling plant probably bottled several soft drink flavors, hence the absence of side embossing, just use one bottle for all of it.
It is an IPPY bottle which is short for the family that owned the plant, the Ippolito's. My guess is that it was originally designed to compete with the short brown 7up bottle which was used in Houston and was probably used for a lemon-lime flavored soda.
