These are two small wool "rugs" . I believe they are wool and so finely constructed. I would love to know more exactly where they were constructed and for what reason. They are very small appx. 8 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inchs. I would really appreciate any information about where they were constructed and the approximate date. thanks very much.

These are Mexican Saltillo weavings, made in Mexico for the souvenir market. They come in all sizes, from coaster-size to bedspreads. The brightly colored stripes with a central solid band (often with a diamon-shaped design in the middle) are the definitive Saltillo pattern.
They are woven on a mechanized floor loom, using cotton warp...which becomes the fringe on the ends (unlike Native American weaving, which is woven on a different type of loom, without fringe on the ends.)
These are contemporary (within the last 20 years) but Saltillo weaving has been around for hundreds of years.
Mystery solved.
