One never knows what surprises lurk in small antique malls. I found this old depression era Milwaukee bank pass book in Wausau about a year ago. It was from The Teutonia Avenue State Bank located in my old childhood stomping grounds. We have all heard stories about the bad times during the depression but the original owner of this book must have been a bit more fortunate. He opened the account Oct. 5, 1929 only 24 days before the big stock market crash and kept adding and withdrawing money from the account until April 28, 1932, so I guess the bank survived too. Most interesting is that the bank paid 3% interest per annum on pass book deposits!! I sure wish I could get that today.
