Hi,

As a kid on the farm we had an old house from previous generations that sat empty. It was large, but quite spartan and during the depression they built in a second kitchen and split the house for two families.

These globes were in the 'new' kitchen and I remember them even as a kid in the early 70's in the cabinets.

We finally talked my dad out of them and have had them for some time, but have just this week lit them on top of our family room entertainment center.

Manhattan seems to be connected to the Standard Oil Company, but I have yet to find anything online about a Manhattan gas globe that looks like this one.

My dad has also joked(?) about us paying him for these.

The Manhattan globe is a fairly heavy glass (porcelain?) and the Independent has a metal piece around it.

Any ideas as to the history on these?

Thanks in advance!

Manhattan and Independent both were bought by Phillips 66 .

That would be an awesome globe to have if you lived in NY. How cool!

Thanks for the comments. It is strange that this is the only Manhattan Gas Globe search that brings back any results. I haven't seen any other globes.

    Will keep searching!

It guess it is a really good or really bad thing that there isn't any other reference for Manhattan Gas Globe on the internet. Probably more good than bad if someone is looking to complete a collection.
