I have been collecting glass for over 25 years now. Time sure does fly by fast. I started collecting Italian Art Glass, The heavy Murano type things. I collected for my own personal taste, things I liked. As my collection was growing I started collecting any older colored Glass. Decanters, Sculpted pieces, things that were signed and not signed. If I liked it I bought it. By the time eBay had launched their site, I had collected over 2000 pieces of glass that I really didn't have a clue who made them or what they were. I just knew what I liked personally. One afternoon I was out shopping for glass. I stopped in this shop that I liked shopping. The guy had all kinds of amazing things. I noticed he was behind the counter with a big smile on his face. He ask me to come over and see what he was doing online. He showed me the eBay Website. He told me that all he needed to do was take a few pictures and post his stuff online and before you got to the next item to post the one before would be sold. Then he told me that he was closing his shop that it would be easier on him to sell online. I left kinda bummed that he was closing. I went home and a friend called who wanted to come over. He was doing a website for me so I could unload some of the glass I had collected. I asked him if he ever heard of a site called eBay. He replied no, that it was probably some kind of scam site, that there were many sites out there that were. At the time I didn't own a computer and didn't have a clue how to use one. I told him to just type in eBay and then see what happens. The site came up. Then I asked him to type in the word Murano Glass. He did so and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Just about on every page I had at least 10 of the items that were listed. The price that they were selling for was way more then what I had paid for what I had. Some things several hundreds of dollars. So I thought I should go out and buy some books so I could look what kind of glass I had and how to describe it. I found that I had several Blenko pieces of glass. Some were very rare even. I told my friend that I wouldn't be needing a Website anylonger. That I was going to try eBay out to sell my things. Today I regret doing this. By now I would have a well known website. I wouldn't have had to go through all the loops with eBay and PayPal! I think things would have turned out much better for me. But it is what it is. You live and learn. Don't be greedy, yet dont settle for less of what you have. Most of all your knowledge. I made a lot of mistakes along the way. But I have learned much more on something I didn't realize that I even liked. GLASS! (Read more)
